If you are redecorating your bathroom then you should consider investing in some classic ceramic bathroom floor tiles as they are one of the most popular choices in today’s modern home. Ceramic bathroom floor tiles have many benefits including the huge range of designs and colours to choose from and once installed, they are very durable and easy to clean. Professionally installed bathroom floor tiles can create an overall look of beauty and elegance in your bathroom. Before you make an investment though, there are a number of things that you need to consider...
What types of ceramic tiles are available?
Typically ceramic tiles are divided into two types – the first is called quarry tile and is made by extrusion from shale or clay found in quarries and the other is made from compressing the dust of clay. Both types of tiles are fairly equal in their look and feel and are suitable for a range of bathroom floor designs.
Quarry tile
This type of ceramic bathroom tile design allows the natural clay colours stay intact. The colour of these flooring tiles comes from the mixture of different clays used as well as the level of heat used to bake them which makes every tile unique. Unglazed, these tiles are porous and are a great choice for flooring as they are slip resistant.
Mosaic tiles
This design is a slight variation on the quarry tiles. These tile designs do show the natural colours of clay but have colour pigments added as well. Mosaic ceramic bathroom floor tiles are great if you want the earthy look of natural clay tile but with a more dynamic colour. These tile designs, like the quarry tile, can be purchased glazed or natural.
Glazed tile
This type of ceramic bathroom tile design is available in a number of finishes. You might want to consider the matte and non slip rough finish for your bathroom to reduce the risk of slipping. These tiles do also come in a very high gloss finish as well but these can become quite slippery when wet and not a great choice for floors. If you do want the high gloss appeal, then opt for placing them around the border of the floor for a great design touch.
What size of ceramic flooring bathroom tile is right?
This ultimately comes down to personal choice but there are a few things you might want to consider before you make a decision. Ceramic bathroom floor tiles come in a range of sizes from very small one inch squares to large two feet tiles and it’s important to match the size of the tile to the size of the room. If you go for very small tiles in a large room then it can look and feel too busy and overcrowded and if you go for large tiles in a small bathroom then it will completely overpower your room and look out of proportion.
Make sure you buy more tiles than you think you will need so that if you chip or break any tiles, you know you can replace them with exactly the same size and design of tile.
